The function of the Traffic Investigation Unit (TIU) includes complete investigation of prosecutable fatal accidents, follow-up investigations of Hit and Runs with suspect information, and assisting Homicide detectives with laser transit diagramming of crime scenes. The Officers assigned to TIU also participate in traffic Events such as parades, motorcades, runs and Federal/State funded programs.
There are four Officers and one Sergeant assigned to the TIU detail. Each Officer is assigned investigations by the Sergeant. Each Officer also is subject to call out on Fatal Accidents as they occur, as well as call outs to assist Detectives at serious Crime Scenes where the laser transit is needed for diagramming the scene with precision.
